The Doctor Who Project is made up of a group of fan artists, writers and editors who work together to publish a collection of Doctor Who fiction for other fans reading enjoyment. Occasionally we’re looking for creative, talented, enthusiastic, fans who would to become a part of our team.

The Art Editor will be responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating the artistic style and look of The Doctor Who Project (TDWP) through design of story covers, flyers, posters, graphics, etc. They will co-ordinate a team of freelance artists, as well as work with various fiction strand editors to help develop/create art materials.

The Doctor Who Project is made up of a group of fan artists, writers and editors who work together to publish a collection of Doctor Who fiction for other fans reading enjoyment. We have published over 150 Doctor Who short-stories and fiction collections since 1999 through three ranges – The New Adventures, Brief Encounters and our newest range, The Time Detectives. We are also the recipient of 6 MediaWest FANQ Awards including two, Best Doctor Who Fiction.


Duties will include:

  • Work closely with the TDWP Project Editor, as well as the New Adventures, Brief Encounters and The Time Detectives, Range Editors. Discuss design and layout ideas with the aforementioned Editors.
  • Submit artwork for various projects and publications (e.g. story covers, logos, posters, blogs, website, etc.).
  • Liaises with other artist in the co-ordination of project required artwork (e.g. story covers, logos, general artwork, etc.).
  • Plan and co-ordinate activities of artists and ensure production deadlines are met.
  • Recruit, supervise and oversee other artists, illustrators and/or photographers.
  • Prepare and co-ordinate artwork for marketing and promotional materials (e.g. blog, website, news services, and promotional items).
  • Plan, implement and maintain deadline(s) for required artwork.
  • Design cover templates, so that the end product has a recognizable look and style.
  • Participate in Editorial Board chats.
  • May be called upon to represent TDWP at conventions, events, panels, online, blogs, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate should have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Design and layout experience.
  • Creative, with a well-developed visual sense.
  • Adept with page design software and the internet.
  • Able to motivate and co-ordinate other artists, offer tips on how to improve their work.
  • Organized; confident in presenting ideas.
  • Must be able to adhere to and meet deadlines.
  • Be able to take direction.
  • Be able to work well with others – team player.
  • Be able to see other people’s point of view and be unfazed by criticism.
  • Familiar with classic Doctor Who (1963-89 series), its history, characters, etc.
